A message from Samah in North Gaza
Samah Al Nakhala, a single mother from Gaza City, can't feed her four children
Hello all. You have undoubtedly seen the news and footage on social media of the situation in Gaza which is getting more horrific by the hour. The Israeli Army has let in a miniscule amount of aid after international pressure and criticism, but many Gazans I keep in touch with say they have not gotten any food aid yet. Samah Al Nakhala, a single mother of 4 young children who myself and my good friend and Palestine activist Freya are managing a fundraiser for, asked me to share this message with you:
“We are not doing okay. There is still no electricity or water. My son stands in a long line for water from 5am in the morning to get some water and of course the water is not even clean. There is still no food and flour has become very expensive. A bag of clean flour costs around 100 shekels and a bag of ruined flour is around 50 shekels. The ruined flour often has worms in it, or is mixed with sand and cement.
We have been able to get small amounts of lentils and pasta; these are the only foods that are available at the moment. There are no fruits available at all; there are a few vegetables being sold, but you can only buy them individually and they are very expensive.
Our lives are full of terror and fear, no safety, no sleep. Life is just full of humiliation, fatigue and hardship. I spend all day trying to wash our clothes with the dirty water by hand or making dough from the ruined flour.
By God, I just want this war to end, it’s enough. I am constantly worried and scared for my children. My daughter is chronically ill with Mediterranean Fever and we can’t find any medicine for her.
It’s enough.”
Freya and I have really struggled to raise money for Samah and we try to send our own money to her when we can. Please help us support Samah and feed her four children with a kind donation, or, if you can’t at the moment, by sharing this with friends, family and people you know. Thank you.
